X-Sense combination smoke and carbon monoxide alarms combine a photoelectric smoke sensor and an electrochemical carbon monoxide (CO) sensor to protect against both smoke and CO.

How can I tell whether a combination alarm is detecting smoke or carbon monoxide?

 
You can easily tell the alarm types apart, both audibly and visually. If smoke triggers an alarm, you will hear 3 long beeps every 4 seconds, paired with an LED that flashes red with every beep. If carbon monoxide triggers the alarm, you will hear 4 quick beeps every 5.8 seconds, also paired with an LED that flashes red with every beep.

Why is my smoke and carbon monoxide alarm chirping and/or beeping?

 
Periodic chirping means the battery is low, the alarm has malfunctioned, or the alarm has reached its end of life. Sometimes dust, humidity, or other factors can cause false or intermittent alarms, so we recommend you regularly check it.

Where is the best place to install a combination smoke and carbon monoxide alarm?

 

The ceiling is the best place to install a smoke/combination alarm. Please follow these installation instructions for best results:

 

  • Smoke, heat, or anything burning spreads horizontally after rising up to the ceiling, so install the alarm in the middle of the ceiling if possible. Make sure the alarm is within working distance of all corners of the room.
  • If the alarm cannot be installed in the middle of the ceiling, install it at least 50 cm away from corners.
  • If the alarm must be installed on a wall, ensure it is at least 10-30 cm below the ceiling level.
